Octavian Security specialises in providing security services to the construction industry. Construction site burglaries and thefts are a regular occurrence. Octavian can assist you in implementing an effective site security and crime prevention plans for your project.

The majority of construction sites often have inadequate lighting, poor perimeter security, a lack of natural or video surveillance and insufficient inventory and access tracking. Octavian has gained its experience through working with several of the world’s construction giants, and have become market leaders in providing construction security.

Octavian use the following measures to secure construction sites:

1. Appoint a crime prevention liaison officer
To consult with the police department on issues of site security and receive updates on local criminal activity

2. Create a Security Risk Assessment
When creating a site security plan Octavian looks at the following in order to prevent our clients from being victimised:

- How to secure the site perimeter
- The type of lighting needed
- Where to put video surveillance
- How to secure valuable equipment and material

3. Identify your assets and property
All assets on the construction site should be identified, cataloged and tracked as closely as possible. We encourage employees to clearly identify their tools and personal property. Octavian can also use tracking technology on the client’s most valuable equipment.

4. Secure your perimeter
Secure fencing around your site is the most effective first line of defence against criminals. If possible the entire site should be fenced.  When this is not possible  any equipment and storage areas are protected.

5. Lock it up
Storage sheds or fenced areas are provided for the secure storage of equipment and tools.  Construction vehicles are kept locked when not in use and keys secured in a key safe at the security office.

6. Control Site access
Octavian recommends that ideally your site should have only one access point, allowing for close monitoring of incoming and outgoing activities on the site. Employee parking areas should be outside the construction fence or in a clearly designated area within the fence line. Workers should be easily identified and have credentials that indicate site access.

7. Light it up
A sufficiently lit site can act as an effective deterrent to criminal activity. Well lit areas should include any office trailers, equipment storage trailers and vehicle parking areas. Motion sensitive lighting should be used throughout the job site especially in isolated areas away from public view.

Octavian Security has devised a complete security training package for our officers working on construction sites. Taking into consideration the importance of the safety of our officers and the importance of health and safety on construction sites we have implemented a system whereby all of our officers take the CITB Health & Safety exam. On successful completion of the exam the officers receive a CSCS card (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) which allows them to perform duties on construction sites.

Security Officers/Construction Site Operatives

Octavian officers must attend a one day Emergency First Aid course. All our security officers are required to carry their First Aid medic card, SIA Licence card and CSCS card on them at all times.

After the officers have been awarded their CSCS and Emergency First Aid cards they receive site specific training in accordance with their assignment instructions.
